Services offered

Foundation Behaviors, Dog Communication Skills, Children/puppy Interaction, Canine good manners in the home, Adult's First Dog Training, Freestyle, Teaching Clicker Training to Trainers, Hounds Around Town Class to help dogs feel comfortable in public places.  We help you with shy and reactive dogs as well.

In-home classes are individualized. As the handler/dog team achieve each behavior the criteria is raised to a more advanced level. Within one lesson, the dog can go from simple to complex exercises. We progress as fast as the handler/dog team can go which is fun for the handler and keeps the dog focused. After each lesson, an assessment of both the trainer and dog is e-mailed or snail mailed which also includes objectives for the next lesson.

A big advantage of in-home training is that some dog behaviors only show up in the home environment. These can be identified and retrained. Jumping up to greet visitors is an example.

Fee is $400 for eight 45 minutes lessons. Pick the time frame that best fits your needs.  $75 for individual sessions/assessments.  Hounds Around Town class - $100 for 4 classes.  Prerequisite - individual lessons as needed or 8 sessions to ready the dog for the class.  Please check our service area which is limited to the Northwest Suburban Chicagoland area. Testimonial

I thought the Hounds Around Town Class was wonderful.  I've attended many different trainings classes, both obedience and agility, in the nearly twenty years that I've had dogs and this one was far and away the best.  It's the first time I've taken a class that actually worked with the dogs in the every day environment as  opposed to a large show type ring.  I would imagine it's more challenging for the dog, due to all the distractions, but they learn how to respond to every day situations. Sunny and I received practical solutions for challenges that we run across daily.  Sunny is definitely much improved from the first class.
The class also taught me how to read Sunny's body language. I'm still working on being more observant and reading his body positions for clues as to what's going on in his head.  I've learned to identify his stress signals and have him focus on me to minimize the stress. Most importantly though, this class has taught me how to make a connection with Sunny.  Throughout the class I have felt that Sunny and I were a team working together and that has given us a wonderful bond.
I've recommended the class to a friend who has a very shy dog, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to train their dog in a compassionate and respectful way. This class not only helped me train Sunny but did it in a way that fostered a wonderful respect for the human / dog relationship.  Kathy P.

The dog is learning to follow the cue, "touch".
Cues are the main way of communicating with the dog.

Adults' first dog. Teaching the puppy to come.

Dog learning to touch a target which will transfer to dog settling on a designated place like a mat.

Puppy/child interaction. Children can help train the puppy.

Dog learning to maintain eye contact and focus on handler.
